Safe Haven

Safe Haven was released after the creation of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Marine National Monument in 2006, later named the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. It introduced the new monument and the novel protections put in place, as well as the unique co-management structure for cooperative conservation. A year later, in 2007, the monument was gifted its Hawaiian name - Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument.
