A maritime archaeologist's work does not end when the dive is over. Once out of the water and back in the lab, the team gathers all of their notes and measurements and turns that data into a site plan. This can take a long time, as the archaeologists transfer the scaled drawings underwater to a larger drawing. It is a lot like putting the pieces of a puzzle together and several small drawings need to fit together into one big map of the shipwreck site. Finally, once the draft site plan is complete, the team inks the final drawing on vellum paper. This video is a snapshot of that process. Several hours of drafting are condensed into a few minutes. You can see how maritime archaeology involves creativity and teamwork!
